COMPUTER TRAINING CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Introduction to Email Training using Gmail

Training will include how to set up a Google Gmail account, opening mail, composing mail, replying to and forwarding mail. 

A basic knowledge of the computer and the keyboard is required for this class.

Introduction to Computers

Students will learn the layout of the computer, open and close programs and do searches on the Internet using Google.

This class is for people new to computer use.

Beginning Excel 2010

Creating spreadsheets, editing spreadsheets, adding worksheet pages to existing documents, among other activities will be covered in this session.

A basic knowledge and familiarity with the computer and keyboard is required for this training.

Intermediate Excel 2010

Creating charts, using formulas and other more advanced features of Excel 2010 will be presented.

Beginning Excel is a prerequisite of this training.

Advanced Excel 2010

Pivot tables, charts, advanced formulas incorporating IF and OR as single formulas or nested formulas, along with other more advanced features of Excel 2010 will be presented.

Student must be familiar and comfortable with Excel 2010 before enrolling for this session.  Student needs to know how to select multiple cells at once, enter text or number into a cell, enter a formula into a cell, copy and paste, insert or delete rows and columns.

Beginning Word 2010

We will create documents, use the speller feature, work with margins, save and print documents. 

You must have a familiarity with the computer and keyboard for this training.

Intermediate Word 2010

We will create and edit documents using tools such as quick parts and other advanced features.

This session requires a prerequisite of Beginning Word 2010.

Google Training

We will learn many of the functions of Google, a popular Internet search engine.  Increase your searching ability with this fast moving fun look at the newest and niftiest features of Internet searching. 

Familiarity with the computer and keyboard is necessary for this class.

Senior Training

Created with seniors in mind, this class will give you hands-on experience with computers. We will work on the internet looking up different types of forms, accessing a library account and other purposes you would like to investigate.

Computer Security
Learn how to protect yourself from cyber-threats, safe browsing habits, install virus protection (and the best programs to use), apply updates, and keep your computer backed up. Before you take this training, you should be comfortable making changes to your computer, and have a basic knowledge of Windows.

Computer Performance
Learn how to keep your computer running fast and clean with disk defragmenting & cleanup, registry repairs, selective startup, program management and power options. Before you take this training, you should be comfortable making changes to your computer, installing software, and have a basic knowledge of windows. The Security training (or equivalent) is a prerequisite for this class.

Graphic Design
Learn how to communicate effectively with graphics and text. We will cover contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity using techniques from designer Robin Williams. Before you take this training, you should be comfortable with the computer and typing. Intermediate Word (or the equivalent) is a prerequisite for this class.

Online Communications

Learn how to use a computer to facilitate inexpensive communication. We will cover Instant Messaging, VOIP, Skype and Google Voice. Before you take this training, you should be comfortable with computers, the internet. Fluent typing skills will give you more benefit from this class, but minimal familiarity with the keyboard is acceptable. The Google or Gmail training is a prerequisite for this class.

Photo Editing

Learn how to use Google's Picasa photo editing program to upload photos, crop and add effects to your photos. Before you take this training,  you should be comfortable with the computer and using a mouse.

Microsoft Publisher 2010

We will create different types of documents using templates residing with the Publisher program and finding them online. A comfortable, working knowledge of the keyboard and mouse are prerequisites for this class.

 

Advanced Word – Merge and Macros  

We will use Word and Excel to merge data into letters, address labels and other finished formats.  We will also learn how to create macros to save time and keyboard strokes.  You must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel to attend this class.
